Vaginal Delivery
For most patients our goal is for you to have a vaginal delivery and we work hard to achieve a high vaginal delivery rate in our practice. One of the four of our skilled OB physicians will be present at your delivery. Vaginal deliveries are preferred due to a faster recovery for mom, improved breastfeeding rates and shorter hospital stays.
Prenatal care is not one-sized-fits all and not every patient may be a candidate to have a vaginal delivery. This is why having a detailed, thorough obstetric team like the one here at Associated Women’s Healthcare ensures you get the best care possible for you!
Cesarean Delivery
In some cases a Cesarean delivery or C-section is the safest delivery for mom and baby. This may be because of your prior surgical history, prior pregnancy history or situations that arise during your current pregnancy. We are here to help you achieve your birth goals in the safest way possible for you and for your baby. For first time moms we strive to maintain a low C-section rate. If a C-section is the best type of delivery for your pregnancy you can take comfort in knowing that our physicians are expert, well trained surgeons.
Vaginal Birth After Cesarean (VBAC)
If you had a C-section for delivery of one of your babies in a prior pregnancy you may be a candidate to have a vaginal birth in a later pregnancy called a VBAC. The acronym TOLAC means a trial of labor after Cesarean and is the process of laboring and trying to achieve a vaginal delivery.
Not all women who have had a prior Cesarean are candidates to TOLAC so it is essential you consult with our physicians regarding your options.
If you delivered at a different hospital it is helpful to bring your prior delivery records for us to review. The type of uterine incision along with the reason for your C-section both impact your ability to TOLAC. It is essential to understand the risks and benefits of TOLAC prior to making your decision and we are here to help guide you.
Our practice supports TOLAC and has had many successful VBAC births for our patients.
